Wilderness First Aid Date: Friday, May 31, 2019 – Saturday, June 1, 2019

Location: Camp Orr, Jasper, AR (for details: go to, select Camping/Outdoor Pgm, click on Camp Orr under “Camp Properties”, then click on “Road Map to Camp Orr”)

This course meets the standards of the BSA and the Emergency Care & Safety Institute. It provides participants with current information on assessing and treating conditions that may be encountered in the wild. Skills and scenario management must be demonstrated. The student who successfully finishes this course will receive a certification for Wilderness First Aid from the Emergency Care & Safety Institute (approved by the BSA for high adventure bases and similar activities) which is valid for 2 years.

CPR/AED training NOT be included in the class (you can however, take it for $15 on May 10 – see the council calendar for details).

Wilderness First Aid Prerequisites:

• Current Adult CPR & AED (Red Cross, American Heart Association, ECSI, or similar) is REQUIRED

• Minimum 14 years old (NO EXCEPTIONS) due to nature of discussions

Students Need to Bring:

• "trail" first aid kit with disposable gloves

• Water bottle, snacks, food, & cooking gear for weekend

• Chair

• Proper clothing for the season & weather for indoors AND outdoors

Food: Students will need to provide their own food. Friday night we will discuss as a group what we want to do Saturday for lunch and supper (either everyone bring their own or order something as a group)

Lodging or camping: Camping WILL be available at the site, but you must contact one of the instructors prior to class for details.

Primary Instructors: Tom and Malinda Pitts (Emergency Care & Safety Institute certified instructors for First Aid, CPR, AED, and Wilderness First Aid, as well as trained & experienced Boy Scout and Venturing leaders) Assisted by Scouters, Boy Scouts, and/or Venturers from Westark Area Council

TENTATIVE schedule: We usually work 6-10 PM Friday evening and 8 AM – 8 PM Saturday (with meal breaks)
